Route information

A magical route that combines the deep faith of Mantamados, the picturesqueness of Sykamia and the romance of Molyvos. Drive towards the north of Lesvos to discover traditional harbors, medieval castles and the ultimate Aegean sunset.

Monastery of Taxiarches of Mantamados

Here is the famous Agios Taxiarchis, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Greece. The icon of the Archangel Michael is unique, made – according to tradition – from the soil and blood of martyred monks. The monastery is a place of deep faith and attracts thousands of pilgrims every year, especially on the feast of Taxiarchis (November 8 and Myrrh-bearing Sunday).

Virgin Mary Mermaid

At the edge of the harbor of Skala Sykamia, the chapel of Panagia Gorgona stands on the rock, offering one of the most characteristic images of the village. An area inextricably linked to the writer Stratis Myrivilis, who was inspired by the landscapes and life of the village.

Molyvos

Molyvos is perhaps the most picturesque and romantic village of Lesvos. Stone houses, cobblestone streets and an impressive castle overlooking the Aegean create a postcard image. The imposing medieval castle on the top of the hill offers panoramic views of the sea and the Asia Minor coast. An ideal spot for sunset and photos. An afternoon walk in Molyvos with the delightful sunset will fascinate you.
